Session Description: Elaine will be discussing:
Sixth Level Leadership, using analysis and empathy to lead change

Elaine will share both the theory of self-in-relation that defines Sixth Level Leadership and a case study of operationalizing the theory in her own organization (commquest.org). The Sixth Level model features four core differentiators: mutuality, ingenuity, justness, and intrinsic motivation. The differentiators promote a collective interest to create healthy social dynamics that, in turn, optimize business results. Many women are naturally oriented to exhibit these differentiators, but they can be learned by anyone. Self-in-relation dates back to a 1971 study by Dr. Jean Baker Miller of how the psychology of women shows up in effective leadership and is modernized through the narratives of 16 women (including Elaine) who contributed to the book thesixthlevel.com and have delivered business results by promoting collective interest to create healthy dynamics.

This session is designed to help you improve your own leadership skills while also learning what it takes to work across the organization to operationalize engagement to achieve results.

    Participants will:
    • Understand the elements of analytical and empathic leadership to improve aptitude to tap into both parts of the brain.
    • Gain awareness of the contrast between a dominant and engaging leadership practice.
    • Learn how Sixth Level leadership enhances inclusion and engagement.
    • Apply this approach to create alignment on strategic guideposts, long-term strategy and annual business planning and performance reporting.
    • Identify talent management strategies support this alignment and performance, from recruitment to development and engagement to reward and retention.
